A. The season starts in the later part of September, continuing into April.
A. We have three teams in the German league: KMC Eagles I, Eagles II, and Eagles III. The skill levels vary from advanced, intermediate, to novice.
A. Not at this time. Player assignments are based on season availablity, skill level, and/or paid status with the organization. The teams are very dynamic in regards to the player’s ability to be consistent in attending practices and games, family and missions take precedence.
A. We accept all players, from age 16 and up, all military members from all branches, DoD civilians, DoD contractors, NATO, local nationals (Germans), etc.
A. We accept novice to the more experienced. Unfortunately, we do not have the additional ice time or coaching staff to teach beginners the basics of ice hockey. We generally accept players that can skate forward and have decent stopping skills. Practices will help in recovering skills, but personal improvement may require additional skating outside team training.
A. The organization does not issue nor have complete sets of hockey equipment. If a player is in need of a few items, players will often lend equipment until the order arrives.
You can order online, but it will take about 10 to 14 days for shipment. Here are some vendors- www.greatskate.com, www.peranis.com, and www.hockeymonkey.com.
Gateway Hardware: "It is a hockey shop that has most things if it doesn't they guy who owns it can usually get them."
Before purchasing online, verify shipping costs which can definitely drive up the price.
If time is an issue, Top-On-Ice is an excellent German vendor, located in Mannheim about 40 minutes drive. You can order on-line with them and have it shipped, or contact them for price quotes. If you are a DPL league member, they offer 20% discount, plus the VAT form (19%) off the cost of the item. Another location is the Zweibrucken rink, http://www.ice-arena.de/, but the pro shop hours are very limited and so is the stock. They accept the VAT form and have a decent selection on sticks. However, they only accept cash.
A. Top-On-Ice can sharpen your skates. The rink at Zweibrucken charges 5 Euro, typically a public skate edge, not too aggressive. The Eagles organization owns a sharpener, which can tailor the cut to your needs. The cost is a $5 or 5 euro, which funds our end-of-season party.
A. Yes, every player will be expected to purchase a set of home and away jerseys and socks. Jerseys and socks will be ordered in mass at the beginning of the season so the jerseys have arrived before the first game. The jerseys and socks will cost approximately 100-120 euros per player. The cost of the jerseys and socks is dependent on the size of the order but the 100-120 is to give player a idea of what to expect. A second order may happen later in the year depending on demand. Player may also purchase a personal set of breezers, but the organization has purchased them so you don’t have to. You can contact your coach for information on ordering jerseys and socks out of cycle.
A. The team has extra jerseys for players who come in late or cannot afford to purchase their own set. Players will have to pay a deposit to the team equipment manager to be issued jerseys and socks and will be expected to turn the jerseys and socks in at the end of the season or before they PCS/deploy.
A. All numbers are managed by the organization in order to avoid duplicates when players move up or down teams.
A. Most practices are held at the Zweibrucken rink, which is located 30 minutes drive from Ramstein. During the regular ice season, we normally split the practices up on two nights of the week, where Eagles 1/2 play at one time and Eagles 3/4 play on the other time. We alternate the dates/times every other month. Please see the Calendar for the current practice dates/times.
A. The teams compete in the Die Plays Liga (DPL) At the time of this writing, there are 32 teams, split into five divisions.
A. The majority of our games are held in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area. The schedule is usually posted on our calendar, where game times and dates vary.
A. Generally, the team will carpool from the Mobile Martin Park & Ride on the night of the game, time determined by the coach.
A. We've played teams in Bitburg, Geilenkirchen, Darmstadt, Mainz, etc…, not to mention Prague (Czech Republic), Strasbourg (France), and Luxembourg City (Luxembourg). We are always looking to expand our reach and frequency. If you have any leads, then let us know.
A. The cost is dependent on the sponsor's rank, and the Euro rate at the time of season start. Information will be posted on the website starting in September.
We offer a discount of 50% for our DPL season fee.
A. The cost will be based on your sponsor's status.
Q. What is included in the membership? A. All practices and league games, this includes the player’s fee into the DPL. Additional benefits of playing in the league is the 20% discount (can be combined with a VAT form to get you a good discount) off of equipment, and additional discounts with league sponsors.
A. We will pro-rate your cost based on the amount of months you are able to play.
